Last Post before Move

This will be the last post before we move.

Here is our uhaul pox. They drop off the crate, you fill it up, and they pick it up. Then they store it until you need it. This pod holds about 300 square feet, and the move to St Petersburg will cost about 1100 dollars.

Random update

Things have been a little crazy with getting ready to move to Florida and various matters related to my studies. Here is a rather random update of what we have been up to.


This year, instead of having a birthday, I had a "bithday".


We enrolled David in a couple of Vacation Bible schools and he had a good time. Here he is trying to perform a song from one of them.


We went to our parish's summer social. It was a lot of fun.

On Monday we went to the doctor for Arlene's ultrasound. It turns out we will have a John (another boy) and he is healthy!

A job!

I was recently offered a position at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. I have accepted it. It's part time--I'll only be teaching five courses (a full load is seven) at 5/7 pay. However, it's enough to get by and ideal for someone just starting out, as it will give me time to finish revising my dissertation and designing courses. We will probably leave for Florida in late July. Please keep us in your prayers!

Our Cruise

In celebration of the successful defense of my dissertation, dad and mom took us on all a cruise to the Western Carribean.

Back again!

I made it back safely from Vancouver last night. Unfortunately, I learned during my trip that I did not get the position I had applied for. However, the conference went well and I successfully defended my dissertation. I have to make some revisions, and hopefully will finish by October at the latest and formally receive my degree in November. Here is the convention center in Honolulu where the conference was held.

We presented in this room at 8am on Thursday, March 31, the first day of the conference. Despite that, we had about 20 people come, which was a pretty good turn out.

To my pleasant surprise I ran into my old friend and colleague, Hilary Finchum, who is an ethno-musicologist. Her daughter has been winning all sorts of music/speech awards and her sons are quite bright too!
