Davids 3 1/2 birthday

January second marked David becoming a three and a half year old so we decided to take him to Chuckee Cheese's (known properly as Showbiz Pizza)
Video bowling is an ecstatic experience
You can have lots of fun without spending any tokens!

I love Arlene and David's expressions in this photo.

Someone doesn't look too happy to be riding the bus.

Hey driver! Keep your hands on the STEERING wheel!

Two of David's favorite activities, putting together puzzles and building things out of blocks (Amah helped with the blocks there)

Second Round Interview

Thanks everyone for your prayers. I had the second round of the interview on Wednesday. I felt like I gave a strong interview and I really enjoyed talking to the faculty members. However, they are interviewing ten people, so there's still a lot of competition. They'll choose three for a campus visit. I should know by early February if I'm one of the lucky ones. Other then that, things are going well.

The other piece of good news is that I was able to hand in my dissertation. Once the department gets the approval memo over to the Graduate School they will send it to the external examiner. Basicailly, it looks like I will defend in April, and if there aren't any problems with my dissertation, receive my Phd then as well.

It was funny, today I gave a talk on Church History to people in an inquiry class. I told them about some good books and suggested that they get them on library loan, explaining that I did that a lot. Suddenly, a woman in the audience said "So you're the one!" She worked at the library and wondered who it was that was requesting so many odd history books. Now she knows what I was doing with them. Without meaning too, I'm a source of entertainment wherever I go:)

Back from Boston

I made it back from Boston without any troubles. It was a very good conference. I must have done better than I thought during the interview as I just found out that I made it to the second round. They will call me next Wednesday at 1:45pm Indiana time. I met a lot of nice people at the conference and made some good contacts. All in all, it was a success. I'm glad to be back home though.
Most of the panels were in the Hynes Convention Center. Right next to the Convention Center is the Franscican Chapel. It was nice to have it right there.
Here is a picture of the entrance to the Convention Center, taken with my back to the Chapel. About an hour before my job interview there was an alarm and we had to evacuate the center! Fortunately, nothing came of it and we were back inside wtihin twenty minutes. I was a little nervous about my interview but fortunately they kept giving them, it was just a little delayed.

The exhibition hall where they sell books. On the last day you can get really good deals, I bought a couple I need for my work for half price. I also met the people published the Milestone Documents in World History, which has an article I wrote in it. It was fun to meet people I had only emailed with before.

A meeting of the FKSDSG (Fulbright Korean Studies Dissertation Support Group, there were only five of us in the group so there are more words in the name than members!). The other people in the picture are Mike, a historian working on Japanese prisons in colonial Korea, and Katherine, an ethno-musicologist working on a lot of different projects focusing on traditional farmer/folk music and its use in political movements. Mike was there for interviews and Katherine attends Harvard so she was really close and able to pay us a visit.

Boston Conference

I'm getting ready to head out for the American Historical Association conference in Boston tomorrow. I have one interview arranged already and will hopefully pick up at least one more while I'm there. Please keep me in your prayers!

Incidentally, today is the feast day of Saint John Neumann, one of my favorites:
