Calm (?) before the Storm

I've been meaning to update our blog for awhile, but things have been a little busy, especially as I've been trying to get ahead on my work so I can take a bit of time off when Little Lumpy is born (late October/early November). Things are going well. I really like teaching at Eckerd. Everyone, faculty, staff, and students, have been great, and I'm really learning a lot there. Arlene and David are in good health. David still loves school.

Little Lumpy's 37 week ultrasound. This is a profile picture.

On the rooftop at Melanie's place.

David is really into Angry Birds, so I made him some paper ones to play with. I drew the pigs but he drew the bird.

Making the Angry Birds.

I picked David up at school one day and he was dressed like this.

My colleague (and office mate) Melanie had us over for dinner. Pictured here is another colleage, Theo. Melanie is a medievalist and Theo is a professor of English.

David made some pictures for Melanie. She gave him an angry bird stuffed animal, which he just adores.

David playing with Melanie's pets, Chance the dog and Bede the cate (named after the Old English church historian--remember, Melanie's a medievalist!).

Melanie letting David play Angry Birds on her smart phone.

Some of Arlene's relatives came by for a visit.

Manang Marie and David. It was Manang Marie's birthday the previous week so we got a cake.

Me before my commute to school. My vest gives me super powers.

The next time I post hopefully I will have pictures of Little Lumpy!

David's First Day of School

David's first day of school at St. Alban's Episcopal School. It looks like a really wonderful place and he has been having a great time.

In St Petersburg!

We made it safely to St Petersburg. The trip down took two days, but as far as such long trips go, was pretty smooth. One thing that really helped in that trip, and in helping us get settled in, was a GPS. I finally broke down and bought an inexpensive model, and it realy has been great. Once we arrived in St Petersburg we met Mike, my old college from Fulbright Korea, his wife Gweyn, and their young son Brian at a beach and went out to dinner with them. Mike and the chair of the search that hired me had both told me about a condo coming up for rent at a good price that served our needs perfectly. Mike and his family kindly went to check it out and we agreed to rent it, so we met with them so they could show it to us and so we could get the keys.

Here is the condo. We are in the ground floor unit. This is our car, "Zippy."

The view from our condo door.

The ubox and the forklift truck that dropped it off. It only took a couple of hours to unload it, which was good because it's very hot here.

The screened in patio. David took this picture.

The view of the lake from our deck.

Dvaid's handiwork. He loves the song "London Bridge is Falling Down"

Arlene, David, and I at a Korean restaurant for our seventh wedding anniversary. David is hiding behind me.

Yum, bibimbab!

My office, which I share with another new hire.

The Franklin Templeton Building, which is where our office is. This shot was taken from Seibert Hall, where the College of Letters, which overseas my department, is.

The outside of our office.

So far the move has gone really well. We had a couple of difficulties but everything was smoothed every rather quickly. Everyone has really been nice here and God has given us many blessings. I won't start teaching until September 5, but there is plenty to keep us busy in the meantime. Keep us in your prayers, and we are praying for all those who visit our blog!

Last Post before Move

This will be the last post before we move.

Here is our uhaul pox. They drop off the crate, you fill it up, and they pick it up. Then they store it until you need it. This pod holds about 300 square feet, and the move to St Petersburg will cost about 1100 dollars.

Cousin Brook just got married to her fiance Garth.
