Summer Socials
Things are going well here with the Rauschs. Last Thursday we went to Saint John the Baptist’s (our parish) summer social. We enjoyed some good food there and the talent show. Everyone liked the food so much that we got some to go on Saturday after mass! Other then that, not a whole lot is going on. Mostly we are busy working to get ready for David’s birthday on the 2nd and for visits from relatives and friends over 4th of July weekend. We are trying to think of something fun to do for Canada day for David.

Trip to Vancouver
Frank went to Vancouver on June 14th to take his oral exams. He passed and so is now an official doctoral candidate. His next step is to have his dissertation prospectus approved, which should happen in a few weeks. In late August, Frank, David, and Arlene will go to Korea so he can do his research. Since we have been awarded a Fulbright fellowship we will stay at the Fulbright building. Frank will be working with Professor Cho Kwang at Korea University.

LST Reenactment
Yesterday Dad and I went to a World War Two reenactment by the old LST. It was pretty interesting. The American troops were offloaded from the LST onto a landing craft which then put them ashore. They then stormed up a hill and had a skrimish with the Germans. Afterwards people swarmed over the battlefield to pick up spent shell casings. It made me miss my reenacting days some.

Driving
Arlene passed her driver’s license exam last week. She only missed one question on her written test. Her husband missed more than that when he took it!
Vincennes Rendezvous
Dad, Frank, Arlene, and David went to the Vincennes rendezvous on May 24th. We were able to watch both battles (one from the camper) and a cannon firing as well as hear the band Father, Son and Friends give a live concert (which scared the heck out of David). There is a neat old basilica on site dedicated to Saint Francis Xavier. It was a lot of fun and we were even able to eat a real buffalo burger.
